The University of Exeter is currently recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of Professor Albert Chen within the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy. The position is part of the QLEANUP and UrbaQuantum projects, which are funded by the European Commission and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

This full-time post is available immediately for a fixed term of 18 months. The starting salary is £43,482 on Grade F, depending on the appointee’s knowledge, skills, and experience.

Role and Responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for designing the architecture of a digital platform intended to integrate modeling and analytics tools. Key duties include:

  • Developing customizable visualization dashboards for monitoring and operating water quality processes.
  • Establishing orchestration mechanisms to collect and connect data from multiple sources.
  • Utilising IoT standards (such as FIWARE) and Digital Twin applications to improve system efficiency.
  • Contributing research outputs, including weekly reports, conference presentations, and scientific articles.

Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in a related field of study. Technical requirements for the role include proficiency in a Linux environment, programming in Python, and the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial analytics tools. Candidates are expected to demonstrate specialist knowledge in developing research methodologies and identifying sources of research funding.
